The trading of food for cigarettes again helped me a lot.Most of my day would be occuppied by discovering what people wanted for a cigarette, and I would proceed to save the items mentioned from my breakfast, dinner, and tea meals and then go about my business.....

There was one poignant moment that I recallect, because on this particular day there was a relative scarcity of cigarettes for whatever reasons.However, my cell mate somehow managed to obtain a small piece of tobacco, but as he had no cigarette papers he proceeded to use a piece of toilet paper with which to roll it in and attempted to smoke it in the cell, the results of which were one fleeting puff and a very red nose, which just goes to show you the depths that people will sink to in their quest to satisfy their desires.
