8. Memphis - Cordova

Cordova, itself, seemed to be a pretty decent, even affluent suburb of Memphis.His dwelling was located in a vastAn apartment complex apartment complex the likes of which I had never seen before, that contained, at least, two hundred individual apartments located within the complex.It included a host of facilities which the residents could use free of charge, such as a swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, a gym, and a launderette to name but a few.These type of housing complexes were a new experience for me and, in many ways, gave me an insight into the culture that I had emmigrated into.Of course, as I was to discover later, these type of apartment complexes are very typical of many southern American suburbs.

I, also, noticed that there were very few black people living in the complex, an observation which I perceived as being a bit odd, considering where I was situated in America, edging towards the south.Naturally enough, segregation takes different forms in different countries, and in America, especially in southern states, it takes the form of white and black suburbs.That’s just the way it is, and is only to be expected given their history.

All in all my impressions were quite positive and I envisioned settling in nicely, and creating a brand new and interesting life for myself.
